Andy Vaz は、クラフトワークを輩出したドイツのデュッセルドルフ出身。1997年から、「ミニマル・テクノ」のジャンルに焦点を当てた非常に重要なレーベルとして国際的な評価を確立した「Background Recordings」の運営およびキュレーションを手掛ける。

Andyは、「ミニマル・テクノ」というジャンルが確立され、数多くのサブジャンルが次々と生まれる前から、ミニマルな電子音楽のための文化的架け橋を築くことに尽力してきた。その活動の舞台は、デュッセルドルフ、サンフランシスコ、デトロイト、モントリオール、トロント、ロンドン、シカゴ、南アフリカ、モンテレイ、パースなど、世界中の数え切れないほどの都市に及んでいる。ミニマル・エレクトロニック・ミュージック・ムーブメントにおいて、非常に影響力のある国際的なアーティストたちの作品を、彼のレーベル「Background」からリリースしてきた。例えば、Sutekh、Jan Jelinek、Todd Sines、Terrence Dixon、Jeff Milligan、Akufen、Submania、Dean DeCosta、Rhythm Maker、Kit Clayton、Ectomorph、Deadbeat、Baby Ford、Stewart Walker、Donnacha Costello、Geoff White、Smyglyssna、Portable、Antiguo Automata Mexicano、Oliver Hacke、Frivolousといった数多くのアーティストが、「Background」という舞台を彩ってきたのである。「Background」は、ミニマル・テクノを紹介する主要な存在として、ミニマル・テクノに内包する地域ごとの多様な影響を世界に提示し、その理解を深める役割を果たしてきた。

長い年月を経て、ハウス・ミュージックとテクノは、様々な形で融合、分離、分裂、そして再結合を繰り返してきた。両ジャンルは互いに影響を与え合い、音楽のあり方を一変させるようなハイブリッドなスタイルを生み出してきた。ハウス・ムーブメントへの強い愛着を抱くAndyは、世界的なディープ・ハウスとミニマル・テクノの間に深まりつつある関係性をさらに発展させるべく、新たなレーベルを立ち上げることを決意した。こうして、「A touch of Class / ATC」が誕生したのである。

2000年、自身の作品のリリースを開始。その第一歩となったのが「Sound Variation [—]」シリーズである。これは、全10作からなるコンセプチュアルなシリーズで、明確な音響的・概念的な定型や直線的な展開には縛られず、唯一「4/4拍子を基調としたエレクトロニック・ミュージックであること」という条件のみを前提とし、あとは聴き手の想像力に委ねられるという性質を持っている。各作品は、無限の作曲アプローチを内包しつつ、同一の楽器構成を再利用・再循環させるという手法によって定義されている。

そして、Andyは、既存のシリーズに加え、ミニマル・テクノ／ダンス・ミュージックの作品もリリースを開始する。それらの楽曲は、グルーヴを重視しており、国際的に高い評価を得ているライブ・アクトとしての彼の豊富な経験が反映されているものである。彼は、世界中の数多くのクラブやフェスティバル、ライブ会場に出演しており、その活動の場は東京の伝説的な「LIQUIDROOM」（田中フミヤのTorema Records 10周年記念イベント）、MUTEK Festival など多岐にわたっている。観客を熱狂させるライブ・アクトとして、また独自のサウンドを持つアーティストとして確固たる評価を築いてきた。2時間にも及ぶダンス・ミュージック主体のライブ・セットから、より抽象的でじっくりと聴かせるパフォーマンスまで、そのスタイルは多彩であり、それは、様々な音楽の場に対応できる彼の実力を証明するものである。

2007年3月には、新レーベル「YORE Records」を立ち上げる。このレーベルは、デトロイトやシカゴのオーセンティックなオールドスクール・ハウス／テクノ・サウンドを主軸とし、Rick Wade、Terrence Dixon、Todd Sines、Alton Miller、Chez Damier、Patrice Scott、Memory Foundation、Vick Lavender、そしてAndy自身といったアーティストたちに新たなリリースの場を提供している。Yore Recordsは、これまでに70作品以上をリリースしており、今後もその活動は継続される予定である。また、2021年には、Andy自身が運営するヴァイナル通販および完全招待制のアンダーグラウンド・レコード・ストア「Yore Store」をスタートさせている。

Andy Vaz hails from Düsseldorf, Germany, the breeding ground of Kraftwerk. Since 1997, Andy manages and curates Background Recordings, internationally acclaimed as being one of the most instrumental labels to concentrate on what people refer to as: minimal techno.

Long before Minimal Techno turned into a genre, and subgenre after subgenre were invented, Andy has already been concentrating on providing a cultural conduit for more minimal electronic music, between Düsseldorf, San Francisco, Detroit, Montreal, Toronto, London, Chicago, South Africa, Monterrey, Perth and countless other cities around the world. Some of the most influential international musicians of the minimal electronic music movement had their works presented on his Background Imprint. Artists such as: Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Todd Sines, Terrence Dixon, Jeff Milligan, Akufen, Submania, Dean DeCosta, Rhythm Maker, Kit Clayton, Ectomorph, Deadbeat, Baby Ford, Stewart Walker, Donnacha Costello, Geoff White, Smyglyssna, Portable, Antiguo Automata Mexicano, Oliver Hacke, Frivolous and many others have graced the Background stage. The Label has been a major force in the presentation of minimal techno, introducing and educating the world to the geographic variable influences that exist within the genre.

As the years have passed, house music and techno have fused, segregated, split and recombined in countless ways. Both techno and house have drawn influences from one another to create hybrids that have changed the face of music as we know it. Andy could not ignore his undeniable appreciation for the house movement and therefore, decided to start a second label in order to help facilitate the growing relationship between global deep house and minimal techno: “A touch of Class / ATC” was born.

In 2000, Andy Vaz has released his own material. At first he started his Sound Variation [—] series. A set of 10 conceptual releases where as the sound can be defined by the criteria of one’s imagination constrained only by the definition of it being 4/4 based electronic music without following any clearly defined linear sound aesthetic or concept. All works simply defined by the criteria of re-use, recycling of same instrumentation, within the context of boundless compositional approaches.

Next to the series Andy Vaz also started putting out minimal techno dance material recently. Music, that is focused on the Groove and is based on his rich experiences as an internationally rewarded Live Act. Apart from having played countless clubs, festivals and venues worldwide, he’s done everything from the legendary “Liquid Room” in Tokyo (for Fumiya Tanaka’s 10^thAnniversary of Torema Records) to the MUTEK Festival. Andy has build up an excellent reputation as a crowd shaking and unique sounding live act. Known for extended two hour dance live-sets to more abstract listening performances Andy proves to be diverse and suitable in various musical contexts.

In march 2007 Vaz launched a new label called “YORE”, which comes with a strong focus on the authentic old school Detroit & Chicago House and Techno Sound with original artists such as Detroit’s Rick Wade, Terrence Dixon, Todd Sines, Alton Miller, Chez Damier, Patrice Scott, Memory Foundation, Vick Lavender and of course Andy himself among others, presenting a new platform for these artists.Yore records have released more than 70 records so far and will continue this mission. In 2021 Andy started his own Vinyl-mailorder and private invitation only underground record store called Yore Store.

様々なユニットを経て、2003年より関西を中心に活動を開始。テクノ、ハードミニマルのサウンドにアナログシンセ、ヴォーカル、メタルパーカッション等のライブパフォーマンスをおこない話題を集めてきたが、2014年よりシンセ・ニューウェイヴをコンセプトにキーボーディストのメンバーを加え、完全ヴォーカルスタイルの新生BODILとして活動を開始。現在まで、月数本のライブをコンスタントに休むことなく行っている。
2017年7月には、LIQUIDROOM13周年で電気グルーヴのオープニングアクトを務めた。2021年、レーベルTransmission KyotoからHölle und Himmel (TMDG001) をデジタル・リリース。2022年秋には、フルアルバム『KÖRPERKOMPLEX』を Rote Lippen Kyotoからリリースしている。

90年代より関西を中心に本格的に音楽活動を開始。現在、主に、Live PA /Djとして活動中。2007年、チャートで上位を獲得し、ロングラン・ヒットを記録したカナダのレーベル・DirtyWorksからリリースされたアルバム”Calling of Amon”をかわきりにコンスタントに楽曲をリリース。そして、2011年より主宰Vinyl レーベル・Transit Records Kyotoをス タートさせた。ファースト・リリースとして、デトロイトのレジェンドDJの一人、Terrence Parkerの作品を、2013年にはレーベルの第2弾として、自身の作品”Transit EP” (Tagtrumer Remix収録)(TR-001)をリリースした。2015年には、Hiroshi Watanabe氏とのカップリングEP “The Bridge of Sounds EP”(TR-003)、2016年には、ベルリンのアーティストBee Lincolnとともに”Transition EP”(TR-004)、2017年6月、ベルリンの名門レーベルLebensfreudeのGunneとZuckermannのリミックスを収録た”Without End Hour EP(TR-005)”をリリース、Tyree CooperやGene FarrisといったレジェンドDj達からサポートを受けた。

2011年から現在に至るまで、計10回のドイツでのDJツアーを行い、テクノ・ミニマル系最高峰クラブのTresor.Berlinをはじめ、Wilde Renate、GoldenGate、Cookies、Ipse Berlin, Chalet等々、ベルリンの主要クラブに出演の他、フランクフルト、ハンブルグ、マンハイム等のクラブ、ハイデルベルク郊外の千人規模の山頂でのフェス等、幅広く出演している。さらに、2018年から毎年、オーストリアでもプレイし、ウィーン、グラーツ、リンツで公演している。こういった日本とドイツでの活動を通じ、ドイツのラジオ局に注目され、2014年、南西ドイツ放送(Südwestrundfunk)のプログラムで、自身とTransit Records Kyotoが取り上げられ約30分の番組として放送された。 2018年1月、名門レーベルTrenton Records主宰ReynoldのRemixを収録した”The Phase at Midnight EP”(TR-006)をリリース。2000 and Oneをはじめとした著名アーティストから高い評価を得ている。 そして、2020年 ”Journey in My Head” (TRDG004)、2021年 “String Vibrates” (TRDG005)、2024年5月 “Time to Rise High” (TRDG007)、同年8月には Hiroshi Watanabe とのカップリングEP “The Bridge of Sounds 2″をリリースしている。2025年2月には、シングル “An Entire Sky”(3曲収録)をリリース。

Ryoma is a track maker and DJ who is well known in the Japanese underground. He started his career as a musician in the early 90’s. He has had a lot of experience in a variety of underground bands as a guitarist and vocalist. He then started to participate in the club music scene playing live and DJing, and was nominated as a finalist of the Roland Groove Competition in 2000. He currently plays an active part in the Kansai scene, playing live and DJing in Kyoto and Osaka, and organizing the locally famous event Undermine at Kyoto’s legendary Club Metro. His strong livesets have an excellent reputation and he has played with prolific domestic and international artists including Juan Atkins aka Model 500, Underground Resistance, Jeff Mills, Carl Craig, Terrence Parker, Laurent Garnier, Stefan Goldmann, Elektro Guzzi, Gunne&Zuckermann, DJ3000, Rennie Foster, Hiroshi Watanabe aka Kaito, Edward, Oskar Offermann and many more.

In 2009 he started to run his own record shop “Transit Records Kyoto” and as of next year started to run his own label, Transit Records Kyoto. The first release was Detroit legend Terrence Parker’s “Beautiful Life” with Ryoma’s remix and another Kyoto artist DJ Itoi (Ken’ichi Itoi). And the second release was his own title “Transit EP” including the remix by Tagträumer² (Black Fox Music/Rauschzeit). After it, He released Stefan Goldmann’s brilliant track “Empty Suit” for the 3rd release. The 4th release was the coupling EP with Hiroshi Watanabe (Kompakt/Transmat) and 5th release was the coupling EP with Bee Lincoln. In 2017, the 6th vinyl “Ryoma Sasaki – Without End Hour EP” including Gunne, Zuckermann’s remixes was released. It got the good supports from famous great Djs like Tyree Cooper and Gene Farris. Now the label is preparing Ryoma’s new work for the 8th vinyl release.

Until now, he did the Germany tour 10 times, and started Austria tour in 2018: played at many clubs: Tresor. Berlin, Wilde Renate, Golden Gate, Chalet, Cassiopeia, ipse.Berlin, Paloma, Molox Club, Mikz, Crack Bellmer, Silbergold, Café Koz, Konfuzius Franz, Kraniche Bei Den Elbbruecken, Kurzbar, Kaprowbar, Villa Nachttanz, Rhiz (Vienna), Schlot (Linz) etc…

京都をベースに地元密着型の各種パーティーを地道に展開、過去には自身のメインパーティーとして2000年代京都HOUSE/TECHNOシーンを代表するパーティーの一角を担った『STEREO SYSTEM』をWORLD/LAB.TRIBEにて主催。
その他、規模を問わず様々なパーティーへの出演で培われた経験を元に、これまでに世界中のトップアーティスト達と数多く共演。
ソリッドかつエッジの効いた楽曲とNEW WAVEや近年のElectro Technoサウンド等をMIXするスタイルで攻め続けているはず。
2016年に世代交流パーティー『TOTAL AGE』をMETROにて新たに立上げ、単純に楽しいだけで終わるのではなく世代がクロスオーバーしながら交流が生まれるパーティーを展開していく事で、クラブカルチャーを衰退させる事なくホンモノを絶やす事なく更なる拡大を期待すると共に、文化としての水準向上と、音楽 映像 空間 etc…の様々な分野のアーティストが出会い、また刺激し合いながら成長し合う事を願っている。イベントは嫌。パーティーが好。
